From the recording Hope It Grows
While I was serving in the United States, Navy band, Country Current, I had placed an order for a Martin D 28 Marquis acoustic guitar. When that thing came in, it smells so good! Even though I know it’s lacquering Blue, the smell took on a whole new meaning to me, after having picked out some of the largest festivals in the country.
The thought of that stuck with me and became this song!

VERSE 1
I still recall the day that she came in
The box said CF Martin
I tore it open at one end
I laid the case down gently
And undid every latch
Tuned her up and started strumming
Never heard a sound like that
VERSE 2
I noticed that sweet smell from the case
I still smell it today
It brings a smile to my face
It’s memories of shows we played
And pickin neath the stars
To me its like smooth bourbon
And a hand rolled cigar
CHORUS
All the memories and music that I’ve made
This old guitar has carried me all the way
For me its like bourbon and cigars
Every time I crack the case
On my Martin Guitar
VERSE 3
Countin all the miles and the dotted lines
Playin music from the eastern shore
To the western pines
Miles and miles of highways
Across this gorgeous land
I got to see it all
With this guitar and a band (in my hand)
VERSE 4
I hope someday I play the Opry Stage
My first time on the sacred circle
Before I walk out I’ll just pray
Lord, let me treat the music right
Though I may not be a star
I will be for a moment
With my Martin Guitar
CHORUS
All the memories and music that I’ve made
This old guitar has carried me all the way
For me its like bourbon and cigars
Every time I crack the case
On my Martin Guitar
